Stop Underliving.
Start Living.
Underliving is any thought or belief that leads to behaviors that block you from living the life you want.
Gina giggled as she read the flyer: “Writer’s Weekend Retreat: Starting from Scratch to Success!” She read it again. She exhaled deeply as her body settled into the chair. Her thoughts drifted to a weekend filled with words, coffee, and comfy solitude.
Statements of underliving intruded:
- “It’s not practical.”
- “Don’t get your hopes up.”
- “Other things are more important. Besides, you can’t make a living writing.”
Underliving is a way to avoid disappointment.
It also is a form of self-harm. It supports the limiting belief in your unworthiness.
There are many small ways you reinforce underliving:
- “I’m too old to take a dance class.”
- “Hiking the Appalachian Trail for three weeks is an impossible dream.”
- “I’m not going to buy that magazine because it’s too expensive.”
Take one small step today.
- Buy the magazine you haven’t allowed yourself to buy
- Get books from the library on hiking the Appalachian Trail
- Sign up for a dance class at your community center
The only person in your way is you.
Gina told her best friend about her dream of spending a weekend writing. Her friend responded, “If you sign up, I will too!”
Give yourself permission to want what you want.
