Take a deep breathe!
In honor of World Breathing Day, practice the Buddha belly breathing technique. Named after depictions of the potbellied Chinese folkloric deity Budai, it is a technique that pushes your belly out to support optimal breathing. It relaxes the mind and body and eases physical and mental tension.
How World Breathing Day Came To Be
In 2012, Susanne Hovenas, a Swedish health journalist, initiated World Breathing Day to inspire and share practical tips about breathing to strengthen your health and well-being. Several studies show the effectiveness of deep breathing techniques in preventing and reducing stress. Proper breathing increases concentration and productivity.
How To Breathe Deeply
Place one hand on your solar plexus, located just below the base of the breast bone. Consciously breathe into your hand. Pay attention to your hand rising and falling. Fill your lungs to capacity and release the breath over four to six seconds. Do this for five to fifteen breaths. Release any tension in your jaw, eyes, and neck.
There are several deep-breathing apps available to guide you through breathing exercises to keep you energized, focused, and productive.
